• Dr. Anupam Pokharel, whom you are seeing, is a psychiatrist. He has been requested to carry out this telehealth examination for an independent assessment of the current status and treatment of your psychiatric condition. This is done with your consent.
• Dr Pokharel will ask you details about the history of your condition in addition to some more general questions, which are relevant to your psychiatric status.
• After the examination is concluded, Dr Pokharel will write an assessment report which will be forwarded only to the organisation requesting the report.
• Because Dr Pokharel is not your treating doctor, it is not his role to advise you on your diagnosis and/or treatment. Dr Pokharel’s task is assessment of your mental health and it’s effects, and preparation of a report.
• Injured workers attending a psychiatric examination will normally be advised that they must be seen without family members or friends due to the personal and private nature of the questions asked. During telehealth assessment, Dr Pokharel may request the accompanying person to leave the room, however it is recommended they remain at easy access should a need of help arise.
• Family members or spouses should not attempt to answer questions on behalf of the person being examined, as this information must come from the patient. Dr Pokharel, however, may ask the spouse or family member separate questions for clarification if relevant.
• The examination cannot be conducted with children, especially small children, in the examination room.
• Personally sensitive matters can be discussed during the assessment, which can be sometimes overwhelming. You may have to access your usual health care provider or contact emergency services (000 or nearest emergency department) for any health concerns should a need arise.
• In case Dr Pokharel becomes concerned about risk to you or anyone else during and after this assessment, Dr Pokharel may contact relevant authorities to address the specific risk issues.
• In case of technology failure, Independent Medical Examination may need to be repeated by telehealth or a face to face assessment may need to be organized.
• All video consultations including messages, voice, video, and content are encrypted using AES 256-bit encryption. Consultations are not recorded.
• If you are still not clear about the nature and purpose of the examination, do not hesitate to ask for further explanation, preferably before the examination begins.
